Step-by-Step Process to Apply for a Canada Student Visa

Are you one of those willing to study in Canada? You can research academic plans and the University program, for quality education in Canada. Learn in detail the step-by-step process to apply for a Canada Student Visa. 

  • Step 1: Acceptance in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) in Canada 

    You can research the designated learning institution in Canada from the website of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). After selecting and shortlisting your interest, you need to meet academic requirements to get accepted into the University program of your choice. By meeting academic prerequisites, minimum English language proficiency test score, and reviewing your application, and SOP, you can apply to the Canadian University program. 

  • Step 2: Payment of Tuition Fees

    The next step is paying the tuition fees online or by mail to the DLI for the first year of studies as mentioned in the admission policy. If you are eligible apply for a student loan or a guaranteed investment certificate (GIC) to supplement the finances. You must be aware of the payment method to DLI and IRCC, and by ensuring proof of payment record, you can proceed. 

  • Step 3: Gathering the Required Documents for Visa Application

    After enrolling in an academic program, the next step for a Visa application is gathering the required documents. With the required academic permit, letter of acceptance from a DLI, valid passport, financial proof, and police and medical clearance certificate, you can continue your VISA process. 

  • Step 4: Pay the Visa application fee 

    To pay the Visa application fee online, firstly you need to create an online account on the IRCC website. If you already have one, you can simply log in. Under the Pay my fees; section, you can see the Student permit fee, where you will be asked for payment. Accordingly, you may now make payment under credit or debit card adhering to the standing instructions. 

    The VISA application fee to study in Canada is currently CAD$150. Additionally, you may be required to pay for biometrics, a fee of CAD$85. You also have an alternative mode of payment, by visiting VAC near you. In this process, you need to go to the VAC with a valid passport and visa application form and pay the fee within the accepted payment method. 

  • Step 5: Submit your VISA application

    Once the payment for the SEVIS fee is made, you need to submit your Visa documents and form. This can be done online or physically at the VAC, depending on your convenience. For online applications, you can click on the apply online link on the IRCC account. By submitting documents, you can provide proof of Visa fee payment and apply. 

  • Step 6: Attend a Visa Interview 

    For Canada Visa approval, there may be the requirement of a Visa interview, so book a date and get prepared for an Interview. 

  • Step 7: Wait for a decision 

Student Visa applications can take longer processing time if you apply from June to August, which is the peak of all. Apart from these, in normal circumstances, it takes a processing time of 12 weeks to review your Visa application. You will be notified about the Visa status, and in case of queries, you may contact IRCC.

  • Step 8: Get a Study Permit

Upon Visa grant, you will be provided with a Visa grant number. You will be allowed the duration of your stay in Canada, and receive a study permit in accordion to the duration of your University program.
