What is a No Objection Certificate?

No Objection Certificate is an official document required by Nepalese students planning their academic journey abroad. It is issued by the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Nepal. NOCs are required to obtain a VISA and transfer to schools, and the government approves on behalf of the students to act on the specific request, be it financial or academic. It is only valid for 6 months upon issuance. 

Why do Nepalese Students need a NOC to study abroad? 

No Objection letter or Certificate is a compulsory requirement for Nepalese students to study abroad. It helps students to make payments and even enroll conveniently at the University they are applying to. In other words, NOC acts as a permission based on which students are allowed to study in another country outside Nepal. Some of the reasons why Nepalese need NOC are listed below,

How to get a NOC in Nepal?

Step 1: Visit the official website of MoE

The first step to applying for an NOC is visiting the official website of the Ministry of Education of Nepal(MoE). You can download the application form for NOC from herein. 

Step 2: Fill in the Application form 

After downloading the application form for NOC, you now proceed with filling out the application. You first begin with filling in the necessary information and later attach required NOC documents like passport copy, academic transcripts, Citizenship Certificate, University Bonafide Letter, I-20 letter, fee payment receipt, letter of Acceptance, and other requirements. 

Step 3: Verify documents and submit an application 

Before submitting you need to verify your documents and submit your application accordingly thoroughly. You can submit an NOC application to the MoE online by mail or in person. Online applications are also relevant to the sector you choose. 

Step 4: Pay the NOC application fee 

You can pay NRS 2000 as an NOC application fee either online or by bank voucher at Rastriya Banijya Bank. Upon paying the applicable fees and documents, MoE will process your application, while it may take between a few days to weeks to review it. Besides, taking your unique application ID number for future reference is suggested. 

Step 5: Receive the No Objection Certificate 

You are eligible to receive the NOC documents until and unless any error when processing your request is found. You can use NOC for VISA applications and fee payments to foreign Universities as required. Normally, it takes about 2-3 working days to get NOC in Nepal. 

Common Challenges When Getting No Objection Certificate (NOC)

The most common challenges one faces with No Objection Certificate issuance are delayed processing, rejection, or inadequate coordination with the authority. Besides,  common mistakes leading to chances of NOC rejection are listed below, 
 

1. Incomplete or Inaccurate Application

In case any of the information mentioned in the application is incomplete or misleading chances of rejection for NOC are seen. You need to cross-check if the information is correct and the necessary documents to support those claims. 
 

2. Failure to meet eligibility criteria 

If the applicant who is trying to get a NOC in Nepal, does not meet the specific requirements set by the Ministry of Education, his NOC application may be rejected. One needs to meet English Language Proficiency requirements, standard academic credentials, and prerequisites for getting NOC. 

3. Financial Issues

Financial proof and sponsorship are required to study abroad for Nepalese students, By any chance if the financial details are unclear or insufficient, then the applicant is not accepted for NOC.
